Kristin Laurin Psychology Ph.D. candidate, University of Waterloo

I will graduate in the summer of 2012 with a PhD in social psychology from the University of Waterloo. I am currently spending some time at the University of British Columbia getting to know the researchers here, and I have accepted a job at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, starting July 1st. Throughout my graduate career I have collaborated primarily with Dr. Aaron Kay and Dr. Grainne Fitzsimons (currently at Duke University). More recently, I have begun working with Dr. Richard Eibach and Dr. John Holmes as well.

My research has focused on the interface between ideologies, beliefs and motivations. More specifically, my work examines the ways people shape their motivations to fit their perceptions of their social worlds and, conversely, the ways people shape their perceptions of their social worlds to fit their motivations. I have framed my investigations in many different contexts, including social justice, religious beliefs, self-regulation, public policy, interpersonal relationships and more.
