Several books have been written over the years about the Region of Waterloo and its cities and townships. From W.V.B. Uttley’s 1937 book, A History of Kitchener, Ontario, to J.M. Orend’s 2014 publication, This is Waterloo Region, there is no shortage of information on the topic. Referencing well-known local historians, like Geoffrey Hayes and John English, and using a wide range of sources for fresh information, this chapter gives the bird’s-eye view on the region’s history.
